As you may have guessed, Aubrey Noelle Pope joined our family on May 13th. She has been a wonderful addition to our family and has changed just about everything about our daily routine! Life is very different with two little ones and I haven't quite figured out how to get anything done other than taking care of and loving on them. The fact that it has taken me this long to even post about her arrival is a great testament to that. I began thinking this post just wasn't supposed to be when I FINALLY found a little time to sit down and start the post and our power went out causing me to lose everything and have to start over. I almost gave up, but decided to try one more time - making sure that I saved regularly.

Thanks to everyone for voting on our baby name selection. I hope you like what we came up with! I will definitely be posting more pictures of Aubrey in the future ... as soon as I find time to get them off my camera and onto my computer.

Time to go... there is a baby crying and a 19 month old who wants me to play kitchen. : ) Have a wonderful day!

I have been out sick all week this week. Ugh. Thankfully, I am on the mend, but it seems to be a slow process - something about being pregnant and sick is just not a good combination. Of course we had to get little brother in on a bit of the action as well. We had a lot of fun and even got to visit a sand box with dinosaur bones! I started the day out today with a play date session. Is anyone else getting tired of all of this wind?? I am ready for it to go away. It likes to bother little girls and their pretty hair. Haha. Anyway...despite the wind and a little bit of chill, we had a great time. I just love how green the grass is at the Arboretum.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day with family and friends. I absolutely did. I also found a little time to work on some pictures from my last play date which was an Easter party complete with Easter egg hunt, bubble machine, and bunny ears. Looked like the kiddos had a blast. We were lucky enough to find a small area of bluebonnets to take advantage of as well - yay! Enjoy!

You may remember these two from around Christmas time. I posted some pictures that I took of them in the back yard at that time. Well, they were back in town this weekend for their WEDDING!! My little sister got married. I can't believe it.

Naming Baby Girl Pope

As some of you may know, we are expecting an addition to our family in a couple of months. Baby girl will be here before we know it and this time around, we (ME) are having trouble picking a name. I just haven't felt the "wow" factor with any of the names we are considering. I'm waiting for some sort of divine inspiration and an "ahah!" moment. So... in the mean time, tell me what you think of the names we currently have on the list. There is a poll over on the right hand side of the blog. Yesterday morning I got to join a group of moms for a play date at the Arboretum. While the kids played on the cows, we got to run around and take some fun portraits. The weather was perfect. I love living in Austin!!!

Now that I have finally finished editing all of the play date portraits I have done so far and online proofing is available for all of the moms, I wanted to take a minute to go back and share a few more of my favorites with you all from the past couple of weeks.

You'll notice that not all of these are traditional portraits and the kiddos aren't necessarily smiling in all of them. Part of the fun in photographing children, for me, is trying to capture their personality - to be able to capture a facial expression that is part of who they are at this stage in life, so that when you look back on it you can remember this phase. Another thing I try to do is capture facial features. Whenever I look at my baby girl, I am constantly reminded of how fast she is growing up and changing. For me, capturing her facial features up close will be a priceless memory for years to come.

Last year when our baby was almost 4 months old, I decided to take some pictures of her to make into a card for her daddy as a present for Valentines Day. My brain was still scrambled and consumed with baby, so I didn't do much planning in advance to celebrate the day. This is one of the pictures I came up with - nothing too fancy, but it made an awfully cute card.

This year as the date approached, I decided it was time for more pictures and another card. This will be a good way for me to take pictures of her at the same time every year to really track her growth. (Not that I need an excuse to take pictures of her. Right now her folder on my computer has close to 5,000 files... I might have a problem!)

This was the end result this year. I am loving that her hair is long enough to put into little pig tails now! Sweet baby girl!

I have been busy this week visiting mom's groups! Lots of fun kiddos to chase around. =) Enjoy the latest installment from Wednesday. If you recall, it poured down rain Tuesday night, but lucky for us the clouds parted and it was wonderfully sunny for this Valentines Day party on Wednesday.

What a fun morning! I did a play date portrait session this morning with a group in downtown Austin. Six moms (and a couple of dads) got together early to let their children play and I tagged along. While the kids were playing, each child took a turn coming over to do a mini portrait session with me. Below are some of my favorites.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day. I couldn't help but grab my camera before heading out the back door to play. These shots were captured while Adalyn was wondering around the back yard enjoying her new found independance at being able to walk and collecting sticks. She seems to have an aversion to looking directly at me when I have the camera in front of my face. I have to trick her into it. She knows I'm up to something.

I ran across some new Actions for Photoshop recently and was looking for some pictures to play with. I found these pictures of my very dear friend taken at her surprise birthday party (in OCTOBER!!) out on the lake at Hula Hut. YUM!! I can't believe I forgot about these! I think they turned our really well for some quick snap shots.

Anyway, back to my original point, I think I like the look of the new actions. One of them is soft and makes everything look golden. The other is a little edgy, which can be fun to play with sometimes (in moderation.)

One of my baby sisters lives in Kansas City, Mo. This Christmas she came home for a visit and brought along her dashing boyfriend, so that we could all meet him. We had a fun visit and got to spend a lot of time together. I love the holidays and getting to see so much of my family! Shortly after her return to KC, we got the great news that she and her beau are now engaged!!! I just wanted to say congratulations to my little sis. I'm very happy for you!

I was disappointed because the day that I finally had time to take some Christmas portraits of my own, it was freezing cold outside (literally) and there was no way we were going to get outdoor portraits. As most of you know, I love doing sessions outside and taking advantage of natural light, but that was not to be for us this year. We did manage to get some fun portraits indoors that capture our little ones' personality pretty well. (Don't worry, the ornamental balls are plastic, not glass.)

I want to take a second to say THANK YOU to all of my clients over the past month. It has been great getting to know your families and being able to capture this time in your family's history in photographic form. THANK YOU also to my wonderful friends and family who have supported Dorean Pope Photography this year and have helped to get it going again. You are all wonderful and I love you very much!

I met my dear friends (and such a lovely family) in downtown Austin at the San Jose Hotel for a family portrait session. It is a very cool hotel with a definite "Austin" vibe. You may recognize Little Miss "P" from a previous appearance she made on this blog. This session was a little harder on her having survived a 5 hour delay for her flight home the previous day. She was a real trooper, all things considered!
